Keystone XL, May 1st, and Marriage Equality

As Occupy is taking on new forms and manifestations in San Diego, members of OccupYrCorner have explored and created individually, but then coalesce back together for important events and holidays. Three of the latest examples of these were a OYC-style Corner Occupation on Coronado to protest the Keystone XL, attendance in San Diego's May Day March as well as the national Marriage Equality Rally and March.

Keystone XL
In April, members of OYC joined a Corner Occupation on Coronado beach protesting against the Keystone XL Pipeline meeting of the American Petroleum Industry at a resort. In attendance were members of 350.org, WOSD, OSD, ISO, Greenpeace, and the San Diego Green Party to make for a great turnout! The overall even had a very good turnout and visibility specifically to the meeting participants joining and leaving the meeting with signage, speeches, a rally, chants, and news coverage.

May Day

Many members of OYC joined unions, students, workers, veterans, occupiers, activists and revolutionaries as hundreds poured through the San Diegan streets, reminding the people who makes this city run, and that fair wages and fair benefits and fair treatment is just that: fair.

Marriage Equality

Early in the spring, OYC members were seen taking part in the Marriage Equality Rally and march to an Overpass Light Brigade event with rally attendees, activists, canvassers from CFAC, comrades from the ISO, Occupiers from OSD, and brothers and sisters from all walks of life.

Free Manning

And of course, original members from OYC have been hard at work at one our longest term projects: the San Diego Coalition to Free Manning. Keep up to date with what's going on at the site: www.freemanningsd.com

The San Diego Coalition to Free Manning

Members of OccupYrCorner have joined forces with members of The International Socialist Organization, Occupy San Diego, San Diego Veterans For Peace, Overpass Light Brigade, and San Diego Coalition for Peace and Justice to partake in a multi-month series of actions and outreach to radicalize and inform the people of San Diego about the injustices and torture of Private First Class Bradley Manning. In 2010, 23 year old Pvt. Manning shared publicly war logs and videos of some of the worst criminal acts and blatant humanitarian injustices done by the American military and government, spawning such revolutions as the Tunisan and Arab Spring, as well as Occupy and the alliance of Wikileaks and Anonymous. With Corner Occupations and events planned until his court martial trial in June our first event marked the 1000th day of torture and solitary confinement that Manning has illegally suffered under the Obama regime. We took over a bridge, marched, rallied, and flyered to the on-coming traffic of cars and pedestrians exactly what this country does to those who tell the truth.
