Agenda:
Earth Day, A22
Occupier Tammy is also in Women Occupy San Diego, with whom we are sharing a table, and talked with us about ideas for signage, timing, flyers, and materials on the "Occupy Perspective" and Earth Day. We reviewed:- On-Table Displays (Science fair board, cut in half, one side Money Out of Politica, the Other about Monsanto and GMOs and the connection) - Occupier Anoki to do, confer with WOSD via email
- Banner for table - We discussed ideas; possibly something short about money and trees (leaves); Occupier Dave discussed materials and construction, Occupier Tammy and Anoki discussed message
- Sign-ups - All day Event from 8 to 6, with 8 to 10 as setup and 5 to 6 as breakdown. Sign up for two-hour shifts at the OYC FB Group Page
- Flyers - We will adapt and use the GMO flyers, hand out seeds; ask Finance for reimbursement
- Stickers - NON-GMO
- Badges - For the OYC section of the table, we discussed creating all sorts of 1" punk badges to sell, with topics ranging from Occupy, the 99%, Feminism, Earth Day, Recycling, No Nukes, etc. Occupier Anoki will arrange a day or so for us to get together to create badges; and ask Finance if they can reimburse us.
Sidewalk Marches
We reviewed quickly the feedback that we have been getting from our fellow Occupiers and other members of the community about how we can expand and refine our tactics. One thing that worked out really well was the ALEC Sidewalk March in February. We were really able to get a lot of conversations going about ALEC and were able to get a great amount of information in people's hands. We agreed that being able to quantify the amount of flyers handed out is powerful. Although we had to table the discussion to go to the regular OSD GA, we covered these ideas:
- Sidewalk March for the ALEC/Trayvon connection (highlight that Kraft, Coca Cola and Pepsi just quit the ALEC under public pressure)
- No GMOS/Yes Farmers Market Sidewalk March
- Our Fading Bill Of Rights Sidewalk March
- The importance of getting really good flyers together
- The importance of choosing receptive areas
Schedule and I.C.E Breakers
To round out the meeting we reviewed some upcoming events and Occupier Carlos took the time to really get us to understand the inequities and injustices in the Immigration system, I.C.E. and the importance of the I.C.E. Breakers rally on April 14th. Some other upcoming events we covered:
- A7 - 6 Month March - gotta be there!
- A14 - ICE Breakers
- A15 - National Action Against BofA Day - Let;s Occupy their Corner!
- M1 - MayDay - Do nothing!
- M5 - Help Occupy OB kick things off with a Corner Occupation!
Also this spring:
- Let's help Occupy City Heights get their Corner Occupation skills up and running!
- Let's make a movie! Let's make a video about how to Occupy Corners and get footage from such things as the OCH and OOB Corner Occs! We could share with the world to help get them started!
- April is Wellness Month so let's help OSD Wellness Occupy the Corners of McDonalds and let people know about Pink Slime and GMOs!
Thanks to everyone who is keeping the dream alive and are working for a brand new tomorrow! And on that note, watch this video! Get inspired! Occupy!
