Two Weeks Of Major Corner Occupying

Over the last few weeks a variety of exciting and amazing things have been going on in the OccupYrCorner camp in San Diego!

On February 8th OccupYrCorner joined forces with the main Occupation of San Diego, the International Workers of the World, and various Labor Unions for the re-enactment SoapBox Corner Protests for the100th Anniversary of the Free Speech Fights in San Diego. One hundred years ago it was illegal to speak to others in public on the streets about opinions or political views in American cities until a series of protests, riots, and efforts in the area helped open up the restoration of the freedom of speech across the country.

We were beaming as we watched over a hundred people partake in the  wonder of Corner Occupying and speak to passer-by and pedestrians about the freedom of speech, current politics, and recent corporate piracy.

On February 11th OccupYrCorner was happy to work with Occupy San Diego, Women Occupy San Diego, OSD Wellness, Occupy LA, Occupy Encinitas, Occupy Oceanside, Occupy Vista, Occupy Chula Vista, Occupy Encinitas, Occupy 805, Occupy Fullerton, Occupy Riverside and more as we took part in the Occupy SoCal Conference in San Diego.

The day started with a secondary celebration of the Free Speech Fights at the corners of 5th and E in San Diego. We then moved to the corners across from Democratic National Convention at the San Diego Convention Center to protest the NDAA passing in January.

We rounded out the day attending a giant GA and hosting our own hour-long breakout class entitled "The Science Behind Occupying Corners". We had a full attendance as 5 seasoned Corner Occupiers took turns handling such topics with the crowd as "Why Corners?", "Hot and Cold Corners", "Letting Your Sign Do The Work",  "Legality and Corner Rotating", "Technology and QR Coding",  and "Other ways to Occupy Like A Ninja!" So very happy to share this amazing way to bring the Occupation to neighborhoods and cities anywhere. Much thanks to Occupiers Dave, Tammy, Linda, Mari, and Ken for all your amazing help with the planning, teaching, and materials.

At our latest meeting and subsequent conversations on the official OYC Facebook Group the week, we have come up with so many amazing new ideas for outreach and community building it is hard not to see that OYC has really become an definite driving force in the Occupation of San Diego and beyond.

Occupy.
