Agenda
Review
- For the new Occupiers attending, we discussed the OccupYrCorner approach over all - a "low-impact, legal "ninja-like" way to Occupy for anyone, needing only to be armed with a photocopy and a little time." We discussed how Homes Already Occupied followed this practice, but how it was also the most passive aggressive attempt at education and information dissemination we've done yet.
- Not only was the meeting stocked with fresh faces and amazing insights, but we were happy to have Santos from ACCE (Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment) with us to discuss some next level thinking on what to do as our outings are reaching people and what to do when we make contact and homeowners are ready or in need of action. Also Santos shared some great information and maps with us, and worked with Occupier Jonathan on arranging that material and connecting Santos with the OSD Direct Action committee for further assistance with his latest action objectives.
- We reviewed the impact and quickness with which the Murrieta Occupation was handled, in respects to OSD being able to offer a series of solutions and support systems to in-trouble homeowners.
- We reviewed last week's different avenues of approach with the site send-off: "In Trouble", "In Foreclosure", "Interested in Helping". We discussed the different areas these links would lead to.
Materials
- Thanks to some deft on-call editing between Occupier Jonathan, Occupier Mitchell, Occupier Dave, and Occupier Jerry we are well underway toward finalizing the door hanger text, and specifying how we will segment this text out for foreclosure situations. We agreed succinct semantics were key to get the message out best.
- We reviewed different options with the door hangers for other initiatives, such as the elections as well as setting up a Google Voicemail number brought up by Occupier Holly previously,
- Some new ideas that came up were offering links to lawn signs or customizing our own; slogans for Soap Waxing windows and window clings.
- Also we discussed the option of us each filing for Voter Registration Cards and wearing matching t-shirts for for protective reasons
Outreach
- Santos from ACCE discussed with us his ideas for an action happening in Mira Mesa and we discussed how he could receive Home Defense and Delegation support from the GA through the Direct Action committee, and that OccupYrCorners and/or Homes Already Occupy can support through indirect canvasing, if needs be.
- We discussed utilizing information shared with us from ACCE and combine it with our other research to ascertain our first area code. Occupier Jonathan and Occupier Tammy can work with Occupier Linda to see if there's any easy mapping we can utilize to help us.
- We discussed bringing the Homes Already Occupied concept to a Saturday GA open announcement to garner more interest and helping hands.
- We discussed starting a Docs page on the OSD Facebook Group to share our links and work, and to leave more table tents and Lost Lindas downtown
Legality
- We discussed some of the previous situations with the latest Corner Occupations and police presence and the topic of keeping actual areas and dates away from prying eyes on public channels.
- We reviewed the legality of our practice, as we should each week, to make sure nothing has come up that we collectively were unaware.
Much thanks to Occupier Tammy for opening up her home to us and much appreciation to everyone who made it to this special OYC meeting for Homes Already Occupied! This Spring and Summer we're going to open the eyes of some neighborhoods and hopefully help to empower some homeowners!
